Initial situation: from kiosk to smartphone

Swisslos was looking for ideas to make traditional lottery games more attractive to Gen Z. The challenge: to develop a contemporary and entertaining game format that meets the needs of this young target group. At the same time, the solution had to be usable both online and at sales outlets.

Solution: Lotto for the mobile phone generation

Unic developed an innovative app as the centrepiece of EuroDreams. As part of a coordinated project together with Webrepublic and Wirz, Unic was responsible for the content and visual concept as well as the realisation of the app. The app offers three ways for players to select their lucky numbers:

Mini game Bubble Burst

A small game transforms the selection of the six numbers into a real gaming experience. Users burst colourful bubbles and receive their very own personal tip. This simple but entertaining game is particularly appealing to the playful Gen Z.

Quick tip for those in a hurry

For players who are in a hurry, there is the quick tip: by quickly swiping over the bubbles, the tips are generated automatically - perfect for a quick game moment in between.

Classic selection of numbers

If you don't want to leave anything to chance, you can choose the lucky numbers yourself. This means that every type of player is catered for.

The ‘Moment of Truth’ takes place exclusively in the app. In a short animation, users find out whether they have won. This emotional climax binds users to the app and creates excitement.

Robust, secure and visually appealing experience

  • Integration of Unity: Enables complex graphics and 3D animations, which is crucial for the experience and playful elements of the app

  • Native interfaces between Unity and Swift/Kotlin for iOS and Android: A sophisticated technical solution that enables seamless interactions between the different parts of the app.

  • Use of Firebase: Remote Config is used to control app properties, Firestore database for data storage, messaging to deliver push notifications, analytics to measure user behaviour and Crashlytics to analyse app problems.

  • 100% code-based user interface: Moving away from traditional UI editors in favour of full code implementation, allowing finer control over UI design.

  • Current security standards: Crucial for data protection in client-server communication.
    Architecture patterns: MVVM and MVVM + Coordinator for a clear structure and easy maintainability of the app.

  • High proportion of native animations: Implemented directly in code and with animated image files, ensuring high performance and fluid user experience

These technical solutions and innovations help to create a robust, secure and visually appealing mobile app experience that works seamlessly on both iOS and Android platforms.

Playful and futuristic design

The app not only looks great, it also feels good. The playful and futuristic design was created for the eyes and fingertips. The aim was to create an aesthetically pleasing and entertaining experience for the young target group. Most importantly, to create a cross-channel visual identity that sets EuroDreams apart from the traditional lottery.

Results

Just six weeks after its launch, EuroDreams exceeded all expectations:

  • Over 74,000 app downloads: Shows the high acceptance and interest of the target group.

  • 59% of total sales were generated online. This is well above the benchmark of 32%. This shows the success of the digital strategy and the attractiveness of the app for users.

  • 5.1% brand uplift: a considerable increase in brand perception in a short space of time.

With the EuroDreams app, Unic has succeeded in making the lottery attractive to a younger, digitally savvy target group while creating an entertaining and contemporary game format. The combination of innovative app technology and playful design shows how traditional games of chance can be successfully transferred to the digital world.
